NAPABA ELECTS NEW LEADERSHIP FOR 2005-2006 BAR YEAR
Washington, DC – The National Asian Pacific American Bar Association (NAPABA) announced today its newly-elected officers and Regional Governors for the upcoming bar year. They will be sworn in for their new positions at the Installation Banquet to be held on October 22, 2005 during the 17th Annual NAPABA Convention in Chicago, Illinois.
NAPABA’s Board members for the coming year are as diverse as they are accomplished, ranging from corporate counsel to government attorneys, partners in large law firms to sole practitioners, trial attorneys, a judge, and even a former state Lieutenant Governor.
The Board is comprised of the Executive Committee which consists of NAPABA’s eight officers, and the Regional Governors, representing each of the nine NAPABA regions across the United States.
President: Amy Lin Meyerson is a sole practitioner in the area of domestic corporate law in Weston, Connecticut. Ms. Meyerson is the founder of the Connecticut Asian Pacific American Bar Association, and she previously served as NAPABA’s President-Elect, Vice-President for Membership and Vice-President for Communications.
President-Elect: Phillip F. Shinn is a partner with Thornton, Taylor, Becker, & Shinn, LLP in San Francisco, California. He is a past president of the Asian American Bar Association of the Greater Bay Area, and he previously served as NAPABA’s Regional Governor for the San Francisco Region and as Vice-President for Finance and Development.
Vice-President for Finance and Development: Helen B. Kim is a partner at Baker & Hostetler LLP, resident in the Los Angeles office. Ms. Kim has served on the NAPABA Board since 2001, first as Secretary and later as Vice-President for Membership.
Vice-President for Programs and Operations: Andrew T. Hahn is a partner in the litigation practice group of Seyfarth Shaw LLP. Mr. Hahn is the immediate past president of the Asian American Bar Association of New York, and is the Chairman of the Board of the Korean American Lawyers Association of Greater New York.
Vice-President for Membership: Richard K. Sueyoshi is partner at Downey Brand LLP in Sacramento, California. Mr. Sueyoshi previously served as NAPABA’s Regional Governor for the California (Sacramento) / Nevada Region for three years.
Vice-President for Communications: Nimesh Patel is a member of the Diversity Counseling Group at Holland & Knight LLP. Mr. Patel previously served as president of the Asian Pacific American Bar Association of the Greater Washington, DC Area.
Secretary: Bettina W. Yip is a Labor and Human Resources Counsel for Cingular Wireless in Atlanta, Georgia. She previously served as NAPABA’s Regional Governor for the Southeast Region and served as NAPABA Secretary last year.
Treasurer: Paul O. Hirose is Marketing Counsel for Isuzu Motors America, Inc. and Of Counsel with Perkins Coie LLP. Mr. Hirose served as Assistant Treasurer this past bar year and is a member of NAPABA’s Leadership Advisory Council.
Immediate Past President: Michael P. Chu is a partner with Brinks Hofer Gilson & Lione, an intellectual property law firm based in Chicago, Illinois. Mr. Chu has served on the NAPABA Board since 2001 as Vice-President for Finance and Development, President-Elect, and President.

The National Asian Pacific American Bar Association (NAPABA) is the national association of Asian Pacific American attorneys, judges, law professors and law students.
