NAPABA is pleased to announce a partnership with Prudential Financial, Inc. to provide a meaningful fellowship opportunity to a highly-motivated law school graduate. Through this partnership, NAPABA will select a 2009 or 2010 law school graduate to join the Prudential Law Department as the NAPABA-Prudential Law Fellow for 18 months in Prudential's Newark, NJ, offices beginning on December 1, 2010. NAPABA's Young Lawyers Committee presents the second installment of its Legal Luminaries series. The program connects young law students and attorneys with prominent leaders in the legal profession. Participants from across the nation will hear legal luminaries share stories about their life, the obstacles they faced, how they overcame those obstacles, and the wise and not-so-wise choices they made throughout their careers.

The Legal Luminaries series continues on Thursday, September 9th at 1:00 pm PDT/4:00 pm EDT with Viet Dinh, currently a professor at Georgetown University Law Center.

After graduating from Harvard Law School, Dinh was a law clerk for U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Connor. He was also Associate Special Counsel to the U.S. Senate Banking Committee for the Whitewater investigation and Special Counsel to U.S. Senator Pete V. Domenici for the impeachment trial of President Clinton. Come ready with your questions or sit back and listen to Prof. Dinh reflect on his experiences in Washington D.C.

NAPABA congratulates The Honorable Tani Gorre Cantil-Sakauye on her confirmation to be chief justice of the California Supreme Court. The three-member panel of the California Commission on Judicial Appointments unanimously confirmed Justice Cantil-Sakauye’s nomination on August 25, 2010. Her name will now be listed on the November election ballot unopposed. If voters approve her nomination she will be the first Asian Pacific American chief justice for a state high court in the continental United States. She will also be the first Filipina American state high court justice.
